The Central Cell Sort Facility was established in 2008 with the aim to supply research groups of the CMMC, the Campus and the University of Cologne with highly purified (mammalian) cells.

The Facility is run as full service which comprises planning of the sort procedure, execution and optimization of the sort as well as quality controls and final flow cytometric analyses by the Facility staff. The laboratory is located in the CMMC building, 2nd floor, room 33.
Please use the forms to schedule a service.

Most sorted cells are immune cells of human and mouse origins; other cells include endothelial cells, keratinocytes, cancer cells from human biopsy specimens as well as transfected cell subsets, other cells, however, are highly welcomed. Since 2008, more than 2000 MACS-based sorts were run by the Facility, mostly for CMMC groups and groups on the Campus, but also for external partners.

The instrumentation includes the Gentle-MACS device (Miltenyi Biotec) for tissue disintegration manual magnetic sort devices of 3 sizes, two program-based AutoMACS devices (Miltenyi Biotec), a CliniMACS device (Miltenyi Biotec) for translation experimental procedures to clinical scale and GMP conform processes, and the flow cytometry-based cell sorter Aria III (Becton-Dickenson). The Facility moreover runs the FACS Canto (Becton-Dickenson) cytometer.

We assure a state-of-the-art standard and timely protocols and operation procedures. We moreover provide continuing education by an educational day "Flow & Sort Day" on an annual basis.
